Every smile starts with an initial free consultation!
During your initial consultation, Dr. Engleman will perform a thorough examination of the face, jaws and teeth. She will discuss with you what type of treatment if any is needed and what would be the optimal time to start orthodontics. Sometimes it's necessary to wait until more of the child's permanent teeth erupt or for jaw growth to begin. In that case she will monitor your child with recall visits to identify the best time to start treatment. Adult patients may need to have dental care completed prior to starting treatment. Dr. Engleman coordinates a team approach between your general dentist and periodontist so that optimal bone health is maintained during treatment. Whether you're a younger or more "mature" patient, you will be involved every step along the way.
What happens after the initial consultation?
You're one step closer to achieving the smile you've always wanted! After your initial consultation and orthodontics is indicated, more scientific information is gathered to determine the right customized treatment plan. We will schedule a half hour appointment to take orthodontic records which include digital xrays, impressions of the teeth and photos of the teeth and face. This diagnostic information gives Dr. Engleman important information beyond the initial clinical examination. These records also help gauge progress while in treatment.
After the records appointment, a private consultation will be scheduled to discuss in detail, your treatment plan options. You will be able to ask any questions and discuss financial and insurance benefits at this appointment. After your consultation visit, we will schedule your first appointment and your doctor will place your new orthodontic appliance. This appointment generally takes one hour and 15 minutes and during this time our team will be available to make sure you are as comfortable as possible.
Visiting the orthodontist about every four to six weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are as convenient as possible. When scheduling appointments, please let us know what days and times work best for you.
We understand that “life happens”! If you're running late or need to reschedule, please let us know and we will do everything we can to accommodate you. When you're ready to schedule your first appointment, contact our practice and our friendly scheduling coordinator will assist you. We're looking forward to working with you.
Visiting the dentist during orthodontic treatment
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
